Mr. Page’s Newsletter – 02/28/12

1.      State Project packets are due Thursday, March 1, and presentations will be made on that day. Please note - students will not be allowed to use their packets during their presentation. They must use notes, props, or index cards. These presentations should focus only on the main points (state bird, flower, tree, etc.) and any information the students found interesting. The presentation should last about 5 minutes.  The entire project will count 25% of the nine-week’s grade.  If you have questions, call me or write me a note. I will be happy to clarify or explain. Late projects will be counted off one letter grade per day. Neatness and organization is critical.

2.      We will be going on the field trip to Cook’s Science Museum and Wheeler Wildlife Refuge this Friday. There is a flyer with information in the signed papers. IF I DON’T RECEIVE A NOTE TELLING ME YOUR CHILD NEEDS A LUNCH FROM THE CAFETERA BY TOMORROW, YOUR CHILD WILL NOT HAVE A LUNCH UNLESS THEY BRING IT ON THE DAY OF THE TRIP! Students will also need to bring their own drinks. Chaperones are welcome to attend this trip but must provide their own transportation. Students will not be allowed to drive home with their parents unless they are checked out in the office prior to the trip. Students will be able to purchase souvenirs at Cook’s Museum but must keep up with their money and purchased items. It looks like there will be a chance of rain so students should dress appropriately. It’s a great trip and we are excited about going!

3.      Don’t forget Library Night tonight at 6:00 p.m.

4.      We are trying to raise money for the Math-A-Thon fund raiser for St. Jude’s Hospital. If you choose to contribute, please make you check out to St. Jude’s and send it in with your child.

I will have the packets and grades finished before the end of the grading period. Thanks for all your help and support over these last 5 weeks!

Well, here is my new design. How do you like it?

Also, here are some items of interest going on in our class this week:

1) Students will be presenting their state projects on Thursday, March 1. We are working on our Powerpoint slides in the computer lab and will try to use them this year. We also will be using our Flip video to record the presentations.

2) On Friday, March 2, the third grade will be going to Decatur, AL to Cook's Natural Science Museum and to Wheeler Wildlife Refuge for a field trip. We are excited, and all of us are looking forward to a time of fun and learning. Note: Fun first, learning secong!
